Inconel 601 forged ring is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy forging designed for demanding high-temperature environments where oxidation resistance, thermal cycling performance and dimensional reliability are important. Also identified as UNS N06601 and Werkstoff 2.4851, Alloy 601 contains approximately 58–63% nickel, 21–25% chromium and 1.0–1.7% aluminum. The aluminum addition helps form a protective oxide layer, giving the alloy strong resistance to oxidation and carburization at elevated temperature. For forged products, ASTM B564 / ASME SB-564 is a commonly specified standard.

What Is an Inconel 601 Forged Ring?
An Inconel 601 forged ring is produced from nickel-alloy forging stock through hot forging and, when required, seamless ring rolling. Forging develops a controlled grain structure and provides a robust starting form for subsequent turning, boring, drilling and other CNC operations. Depending on the drawing and service conditions, rings can be supplied as forged, solution annealed and descaled, rough machined or fully machined.
Alloy 601 is a solid-solution strengthened alloy rather than a precipitation-hardening grade. Typical published minimum properties for solution-annealed forgings include a tensile strength of 550 MPa, 0.2% proof stress of 205 MPa and elongation of 30%. Actual certified values depend on the heat, section size, forging route and heat treatment.
Common Nickel Alloy Grades for Forged Rings

Material selection should always be based on the customer's temperature, media, pressure, mechanical and specification requirements rather than grade name alone.
Inconel 601 Forged Ring Sizes
Ring dimensions are normally manufactured according to the customer's drawing rather than a single universal size chart. Depending on forging and ring-rolling equipment, commercial supply ranges can include small precision rings as well as large seamless rolled rings. Published industrial ranges for Alloy 601 include ring outside diameters from roughly 200 mm to 3,000 mm, with larger sizes available from some manufacturers; other suppliers list smaller standard ranges such as 50–600 mm OD. These figures are capability examples, not a universal ASTM limit.

Typical Applications
Inconel 601 forged rings are suited to components exposed to repeated heating, oxidizing atmospheres and demanding industrial service. Typical applications include industrial furnaces, heat-treatment equipment, thermal-processing systems, petrochemical equipment, chemical processing, power generation, combustion equipment and high-temperature machinery. Common forged forms include retort rings, furnace hardware, flanges, sleeves, bushings, tube-sheet components and other custom circular parts.
Typical Inconel 601 Ring Machining Case
A representative machining project can start with a hot-forged or seamless rolled ring supplied with machining allowance. For example, a customer may require an OD 800 mm × ID 600 mm × height 180 mm ring for high-temperature process equipment. The manufacturing route can include forging or ring rolling, solution annealing, descaling, rough CNC turning and boring, followed by finish machining of the OD, ID and faces to the customer's drawing.
For a precision ring, the machining plan may include datum establishment, rough turning, semi-finishing, boring, face machining, dimensional inspection and final surface treatment. Depending on the drawing, inspection can include dimensional reports, hardness, tensile testing, PMI and ultrasonic testing. The example above is an engineering illustration rather than a claimed customer order; final dimensions and tolerances are determined from the approved drawing.
