Honing is a precision finishing process that utilizes a floating grinding stone group to perform micro-cutting on the inner hole surface of a workpiece. Compared to conventional boring or rolling, honing can achieve ultra-low surface roughness (Ra value) of 0.2–0.8 micrometers and excellent roundness control of 0.5–2 micrometers. This microscopic geometric precision effectively enhances oil film load-bearing capacity, significantly reduces startup friction and operating temperature rise, while also greatly extending the lifespan of seals and minimizing leakage risks. Particularly under high-pressure, high-frequency, and long-stroke operating conditions, honed tubes demonstrate unparalleled reliability advantages.

From raw materials to finished products, the manufacturing of honed hydraulic cylinder tubing requires the coordination of multiple technical processes. High-quality seamless steel pipes (such as ST52-3, 27SiMn, or custom alloy steel) are first selected and undergo quenching and tempering heat treatment to ensure optimal strength and toughness of the base material. The reference holes are then pre-machined through rough boring and semi-finish boring. Finally, the honing process is performed under constant temperature and humidity conditions, utilizing multi-stage feed, precise pressure, and specialized honing oil to guarantee surface uniformity. Some high-end products are further enhanced with polishing or chrome plating to further improve wear resistance and corrosion resistance.

Currently, the demand for honed hydraulic cylinder tubing in fields such as construction machinery, metallurgical equipment, ship steering gear, and new energy equipment continues to grow. With the rapid improvement of domestic honing equipment and process standards, domestic manufacturers can now stably supply full-range honed tubes with diameters ranging from Φ40mm to Φ600mm and lengths up to 12 meters, achieving international mainstream standards in surface quality, dimensional tolerances, and batch stability. In the future, integrating online inspection, digital twins, and green honing fluid technologies, honed tubes will continue to evolve toward higher precision and lower carbon footprints.
